I design pieces of jewelry that last a lifetime, trying to minimize the ecological footprint and offer authentic jewelry for the unique you.
In order for the jewelry to last, it is important that you know how to properly maintain it.
Sterling Silver (silver 925)
When you buy so-called “sterling” silver (fineness 925, which contains 92.5% pure silver), you are buying real, high-quality jewelry. The feature of this jewelry is durability over time and good elasticity, since pure silver is very soft and prone to bending.
Clean water is great for silver, but the water we are exposed to today is very impure, full of chemicals and can damage silver jewelry and give it a gray appearance (especially if it has a patina). The biggest danger is chlorine, which is aggressive and harmful to silver. That’s why I recommend that you take off your silver jewelry before showering, swimming in the pool, going to the sauna , as well as during household chores where you use cleaning products.
When you are not wearing jewelry, keep it in a dry place and in the bag in which it was packed. You can restore its shine by polishing it with the cloth you get with every piece you buy from me or with a gentle jewelry polishing agent (this applies to jewelry that does not have an anti-oxidation varnish). If your jewelry has an anti-oxidation varnish (brass detail for example), and that varnish wears off after long wear and friction, we can repeat the anti-oxidation protection (recommended for any piece that has a brass part with direct contact with the skin, such as a ring) or remove it completely and you can polish your jewelry with a cloth more often.
Avoid polishing any piece of jewelry that is intentionally oxidized (has a black patina) and is an integral part of the product design, and pay special attention to the part where the stone is located (if you own such a piece of jewelry).
Silver as well as semi-precious and precious stones can be scratched. Therefore, always store a piece of jewelry after use in its original packaging and do not mix it with other jewelry.
Recommendation, if you are not sure how to clean your jewelry yourself, take it to a local jeweler, who will do it professionally.
Chemicals in lotions and perfumes can also damage jewelry. Apply them first, let them dry, and then put on your jewelry.
My advice: wear silver jewelry as often as possible. Your body secretes oils that have a protective effect, while at the same time you polish it with friction.
Brass
The brass from which I make jewelry is protected with a special varnish against oxidation, so that it does not leave a green mark in contact with your skin. This metal has excellent hardness and durability, and its color is similar to gold.
Like silver 925, brass oxidizes in contact with air and time. Oxidation is a surface phenomenon and is easy to overcome to keep your brass jewelry shiny.
Maintenance instructions apply to silver, remove your brass jewelry to do housework, exercise or go to the pool/sauna. When applying perfume or cream, wait for it to dry before putting on brass jewelry, and give preference to soap with a neutral pH if you do not remove jewelry in the shower.
If your skin is acidic, flesh jewelry will darken quickly.
I protect every piece that leaves my workshop with a special anti-oxidation varnish, ProtectaClear, and the varnish can be removed by scratching or friction over a long period of time. If you wish, we can always re-varnish your piece of jewelry or remove the varnish completely – then maintenance is more frequent but simpler.
